How to use this estimate
Enter the number of players online at once, select your edition and workload, then estimate. Start at the lower end only when your software recommendations and real-world tests support it. Check whether the provider counts system overhead within its advertised RAM.
How the model works
This is Pocketwork’s planning heuristic, not an official requirement or benchmark. Java starts at 3 GB for vanilla, 4 GB for plugins, 5 GB for light mods or 8 GB for a heavy modpack. Bedrock starts at 2 GB. Above five players, each additional player adds 0.12, 0.16, 0.20 or 0.30 GB respectively for Java, or 0.08 GB for Bedrock. High exploration multiplies the total by 1.35. The range rounds upward and adds 40% headroom at the upper end.
Is more RAM always better?
No. CPU performance, server software and configuration can be the limiting factors. Requirements vary with specific mods, plugins, world size, view distance, player behaviour and software versions. Consult your modpack documentation, test under load and adjust. This model does not size proxy networks or Bedrock add-ons.
